Through blended learning students and teachers can extend formative (ongoing) assessment beyond the walls of the classroom. The presenters will illustrate this from the teacher’s and student’s perspective through two free Web2.0 tools--Quizlet and Engrade. Quizlet, an electronic and mobile device vocabulary flashcard program, allows learners to study vocabulary with pronunciation, spelling, games, and tests, improving retention rates. Engrade, an online gradebook and Learning Management System (LMS), allows teachers and students to monitor performance, track attendance, and grade assignments. Elam’s (2012) study found out that “those who monitored their grades excelled in the course” (p. 1).
