Advantages of Teaching with Wiki

Advantages of wiki for teachers:

  •       It’s a centralized location where all of my resources are available.

Binders full of papers to links organized by skill.

Students can access resources at any time.

  •       Wiki vocab activities as a supplement to the textbook:

Students can do an activity, get my feedback and revise, all before the next class.  It’s much more efficient & effective than trying to grade hw assignments done in a textbook.

  •       It’s collaborative: students can work on something together without being in the same room.  I don’t have to dedicate class time to an activity that can be done outside of class on wiki.

  •       Link to another area on your wiki, seizing those teachable moments even when you’re not there.

Advantages of wiki for students:

  •       When you take the activity out of the class, the students can work at their own pace.
  •       Convenience of asynchronous online collaboration
  •       It’s motivating to see other students’ work.
  •       Students are creating their own portfolio of work each session.
  •     Centralized location for resources pertaining to their class – organized by skill, so easy to navigate.
